Bawku SHS closes down after a final year student was shot dead on Campus. This is a temporary closure of the school in order to restore calm and order.

He cited the protection of children and staff as the reason for closing the school after one individual was shot dead.

A family relative of the deceased claimed that the homicide could be linked to a long-standing rivalry in the Bawku area.

The Bawku Municipal Education Directorate has temporarily closed the Bawku Senior High School following the shooting of a form three students on its premises.

Hakim Kundima, a third-year student, was fatally shot on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at approximately 8:30 p.m. According to reports, unknown intruders jumped over the school’s wall and into the dormitories. In what appears to be a targeted attack, the attackers dragged Hakim Kundima out of his dormitory and shot him.

The assailants departed the location shortly following the event. At the time of reporting, no arrests had been made.

Tahiru Kundima, the deceased’s elder brother, verified the occurrence and stated that the body was given to them by the Bawku Divisional Police Commander.

He claimed that the death was linked to the long-running conflict in the Bawku region, which has seen periodic violence in recent years.

On Sunday, July 27, Bawku Municipal Director of Education Isaac Agbeko Azasoo announced the closing of Bawku SHS. He explained that the decision was made to ensure the safety of both children and staff.
