(c) Yaw is fixing a broken radio for his uncle. While troubleshooting the problem, he realises he needs to understand how capacitors work in electronic circuits and consults you.
i. Describe the following processes in a capacitor to Yaw:
α) Charging action
β) Discharging action (2marks)
(ii) In an electronic circuit, state the function of:
α) A resistor
β) Diodes (2 marks)
d. The students in Mama JHS are making a soil nutrient with natural materials.
(i) Explain the type of soil nutrient they should consider
(ii) State two materials for making the soil nutrient
(iii) State the two benefits of the soil nutrients to be considered
Answers to the 2025 BECE Likely Science Questions (Q2)
2(a) Houseflies and Their Negative Effects (6 marks)
- α) Transferring diseases: Houseflies carry pathogens from dirty places to food, spreading diseases like cholera, dysentery, and typhoid. (2 marks)
- β) Causing food poisoning: Houseflies contaminate food with bacteria and germs, leading to stomach infections and food poisoning. (2 marks)
- γ) Being a nuisance in the environment: Houseflies irritate people, contaminate surfaces, and create an unhygienic environment. (2 marks)
2(b) (i) Definitions:
- α) Science: The study of the natural world through observation, experimentation, and analysis. (1 mark)
- β) Technology: The application of scientific knowledge to create tools, machines, and processes that solve problems. (1 mark)
- γ) Innovation: The development of new ideas, products, or methods to improve existing technology or solve challenges. (1 mark)

- (i) Processes in a capacitor: (2 marks – 1 mark each)
- α) Charging action: When a capacitor is connected to a power source, it stores electrical energy by accumulating opposite charges on its plates.
- β) Discharging action is the process by which when the electronic circuit is closed, the stored energy is released, allowing current to flow.
- (ii) Functions in an electronic circuit: (2 marks – 1 mark each)
- α) Resistor: Limits the flow of electric current to prevent damage.
- β) Diodes: Allow current to flow in one direction and block it in the opposite direction.
2(d) Soil Nutrients (6 marks)
- (i) Type of soil nutrient: Organic fertilizer, made from natural materials to improve soil fertility. (2 mark)
- (ii) Four materials for making soil nutrients: (2 marks – 1 mark each, any 2)
- Compost
- Animal manure
- Bone meal
- Green plant residues
- Etc.
- (iii) Four benefits of soil nutrients: ( 2marks, 1mark each, any 2)
- Improves soil fertility for better crop growth.
