Who are the officially qualified and not qualified expected to write the examination?

Per the rules of the Ghana Education Service (GES), only students in Basic 9 or in their final year of Junior High School are officially qualified to sit the exam. However, in the last 10 years, students in basic 7 and 8 have written the examination with their seniors and passed. This year, some basic 7 and 8 learners are expected to sit the examination.

The three groups of candidates who will sit the exam.

There are three groups of students who will sit the examination.

Group one are candidates registered by schools. This includes public and private school candidates.

Group Two are private candidates made up of candidates who sat but failed the 2024 BECE as well as candidates who are writing the BECE for the first time as private candidates, thus students who receive tuition at home. These candidates will be examined based on the new curriculum.

The final group are those who sat the examination in the past based on the old curriculum and want to resit the examination.

How many different examination questions will be used by WAEC for the BECE?

WAEC is expected to have two sets of questions. One set for students who are resitting the 2024 BECE. This same question will be used by all first-time BECE candidates writing the BECE as school candidates from public and private schools.
