UMaT Courses and Cut-Off Points For 2025/26 Admission
Tertiary institutions have begun releasing their cut-off points for the 2025/26 academic year. In this article, I have listed UMaT Courses and Cut-Off Points for the 2025/26 year.
The University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) was founded in 1953, as the Tarkwa Technical Institute. The institute has expanded its infrastructure and admissions, and in order to be admitted, students must meet the minimum requirements for UMaT courses and their cut-off points.
UMaT courses are carefully designed to provide students with high-quality classroom theory and fieldwork experiences. An undergraduate degree can be completed in eight semesters (4 years) through the General Certificate of Education (A-Level), Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE), or West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
General Requirements
- WASSCE applicants must have a minimum aggregate score of 36.
- The SSSCE applicant’s minimum aggregate is 24.
- Applicants with ordinary or advanced level certificates must have a GCE Ordinary Level Certificate or equivalent with credits in five subjects (English, Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry) or a GCE Advanced Level Certificate with passes in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.
Requirements For Mature Applicants
- Mature applicants should be at least 25 years old.
- Have a birth certificate that is at least five (5) year old after its issue date.
- Have an SSSCE/WASSC or GCE O’ Level Certificate with credit in five subjects, including English, Mathematics, and a science subject.
- An experience in the relevant field of study.
- Pass the written exam and/or the interview.

B.Sc. Petroleum Engineering (Fee-paying Programme)
B.Sc. Natural Gas Engineering
B.Sc. Petroleum Geosciences and Engineering
B.Sc. Petroleum Refining and Petrochemical Engineering
B.Sc. Chemical Engineering
Requirements for admission into these courses: At least three credits in core subjects (English, Mathematics, and Integrated Science). At least one credit in electives (physics, mathematics, chemistry, or geography). Chemistry can only be substituted for Geography in Geomatic Engineering applications. In addition to the Core Subjects listed above, applicants for the BSc Land Administration and Information Systems program should have credits in three Business, General Arts, and Science electives.

Requirements for admission into these courses: At least three credits in core subjects (English, Mathematics, and Integrated Science). Credits in at least two of the following elective subjects are required: General Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, ICT, and Elective Mathematics), Business (Accounting, Business Management, ICT, Economics, Costing, and Elective Mathematics), and General Arts (Economics, ICT, Elective Mathematics, Government, and Geography).
Faculty of Engineering
B.Sc. Mechanical Engineering
B.Sc. Electrical and Electronic Engineering
B.Sc. Computer Science and Engineering
B.Sc. Renewable Energy Engineering
B.Sc. Mathematics
B.Sc. Statistical Data Science Applicants
Requirements for admission into these courses: At least three credits in core subjects (English, Mathematics, and Integrated Science). At least credit in Elective Mathematics and any two of the following elective subjects: General Science (Physics, Chemistry, Applied Electricity, ICT, Technical Drawing or Metal Work); Business (Accounting, Economics, and Costing); and General Arts (Economics and Geography)
Chemistry can be substituted for Technical Drawing or Metal Work in mechanical engineering applications. Applicants to the Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Renewable Energy Engineering programs can substitute Chemistry for Applied Electricity or Electronics. B.Sc. Computer Science and Engineering applicants can substitute Chemistry for ICT, Computer Studies, or Applied Electricity.
